American Creek Canyon Intermediate ~7 miles

American Creek Canyon has the prettiest trails in the Auburn State Recreation Area

Duration: ~4 hours
Distance: ~7 miles
Difficulty: Intermediate due to the fairly steep two mile climb at the end.

9:00am meet at Roseville Park and Ride (Sunsplash)
10:00am meet at the trailhead (directions below)
3:30pm estimated time back to Roseville

Dogs okay.
Bring snacks, water, and waterproof shoes.
Heed poison oak and tick warnings.

Description:
From the "third gate" trailhead we will continue straight (left) on the Wendell Robie Trail past the Barbara Schooner Memorial
LEFT down the Maine Bar Trail
RIGHT toward Poverty Bar for lunch
Then follow the American Canyon Trail back upn to the cars.

Directions to American Canyon Trail - Third Gate
EAST I-80 to Auburn
EXIT Elm Avenue
LEFT Elm Avenue
LEFT High Street (Hwy 49)
Continue straight on Hwy 49 across Lincoln Way down into the canyon
Follow Hwy 49 to the RIGHT across the bridge toward Cool
From the stop sign in Cool
LEFT onto Hwy 193 toward Georgetown and drive 5.3 miles
LEFT onto Sweetwater Trail which is opposite Pilgrim Court on the right
(Sometimes the sign to Sweetwater is missing)
The trailhead is on the right at the end of the street before the gates to Auburn Lake Trails
Parking at the trailhead is limited, but you can turn around and park along the shoulder.

Price: $4 per person per hour for gas, so about $8 per carpooler.

    Thanks for leading us on yet another lovely outing, Shannon! Everyone was radiant with positivity and appreciation! The scenery was wonderful, of course. Stu, Casey and I ended up staying another two hours - found a narrow trail branching of the main one not too far from our picnic area that took us to the base of a waterfall! There was another tiny trail up by the last stream crossing that led us to what looked like the remains of a stone cabin. There were so many red-bellied newts in the rushing waters - did you see 'em?

      I didn't make it to this hike, but do you often carpool from 11th and P for roseville hikes? Thats good to know to carpool in the future since I live in midtown and tend to dislike going to roseville without a carpool
