~16 miles round trip (downhill first into the gorge)
This is a very STRENUOUS hike and it's not that spectacular until you get to the bottom. Please be careful of your ability level.
This is an all-day hike. Please come completely prepared with lots of food, water, electrolytes (or salty snacks), and all your gear including a GPS if you have one.
The below link to a mountain biker's blog is what we're hoping to do. It has tons of amazing pictures: http://forums.mtbr.com/california-norcal/royal-gorge-ous-adventure-738166.html
Marilyn's link below describing the Palisade Creek hike says it's only 2,000" feet gain on the way out, but I think we should be prepared for 3,000 just in case.
HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE RECOMMENDED
DIRECTIONS to the trailhead are on the link below (compliments of Sierra Club) but it is not the same hike. PLEASE meet us at the park and ride or somewhere else along the way because the trailhead is TRICKY.
