Allan’s Mt. Ralston hike is sold out with a long wait list, so I’ll also lead a group up the mountain. According to my book, the hike will be about 8.2 miles (roundtrip) and 2,915 total feet of elevation gain. Mt. Ralston is 9,235 feet high, we start at 6,480, and there’s a little bit of up and down along the way. Assuming the weather and the remaining snow pack cooperate, we’ll go to the top, have lunch and then head back down.
The hike will be totally on trail – no cross-country or rock scrambling. It’s not terribly difficult, and I plan on only a moderately quick pace. However, please be sure you’re up to the hike before signing up.
Meeting time is 7 AM, and we’ll leave the parking lot by 7:10 AM at the latest. If you’re late, you’ll be left behind.
Please check out the ten essentials - http://trails.sierraclub.org/know-how/before-you-go/ten_essentials.html - and bring them! You’ll need at least two liters of water, food, sunscreen, hat, headlamp (just in case), etc. The forecast is for a sunny, but fairly chilly and breezy, day, so bring some layers. Especially at elevation, you’ll probably need them.
Please, please . . . if you sign up – be there! There’s a long wait list for Allan’s hike, and I expect there will be a wait list for this hike, too. Only 12 can go, per Desolation Wilderness rules. So, again, if you sign up, show up. If you sign up and then realize you can’t make it, change your RSVP as soon as possible. No shows are no good, and they’ll definitely be taken into account on future hikes.
I’ll send my cell number out to attendees on Saturday.
