Spider Lake Hike, 9 miles

Starting along the shore of Loon Lake, we’ll hike nine miles with 600' elevation gain to Spider Lake. Bring lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, and plenty of water. If the group wants to, we may have a dinner stop in Placerville on the way home.

It's about one and a half hours from the meeting spot to the trailhead.  We'll set up informal carpools at Iron Point meeting spot.

We should be back at Iron Point about 6PM without the dinner stop or 7:30PM if we do stop for dinner.

Please don't be a No-Show.  If you sign up and change your mind, please change your RSVP to "No".

Thanks Richard. Great hike and enjoyed all the backpackers we chatted with along the trail. I thoroughly enjoyed the many different wildflowers and so many butterflies.

I hate to disagree with people but if the truth be told, this hike was simply that-it was a death march with no stopping and enjoying nature. I might as well have gone to the gym for the enjoyment that I got from it. Why bother going out into nature to rush through and back? I had to run to keep up at times and the trail was really awful. It ought to be described realistically in future so that folks get to know what to expect. Hiking should not just include staring at the ground.

Starting to feel a bit sick, with harsh head ache. Will decided tomorrow, but will not have the time to reverse RSVP. If I make it, will meet the group there, at 10:15

Florrie, Here are the directions from Folsom:

Take highway US-50 E toward South Lake Tahoe. Go 45.6 miles from Folsom.

Turn left onto Icehouse Road. Continue to follow Icehouse Road for about 28 miles.

When you get to Loon Lake turn right to go through the campground to the Wilderness Trailhead Parking area. That's where we'll meet at about 10:15 to 10:30.

We might make a bathroom and coffee stop in Placerville on the way,

    It's 9 miles round trip.

    July 5, 2013

  • Tom

To be more clear on the distance, is it 9 miles one way to Spider Lake or a round-trip total of 9 miles?

    July 5, 2013

  • Richard C

This is an "intermediate" hike because of the distance.

    July 5, 2013

  • Melanie

Would you say this is a beginner or intermediate hike?
