Horsetail Falls to Lake in the Woods and Ralston Peak

    Difficulty: 

    Strenuous, 10 miles 3500 feet of total elevation gain.  Off trail from Horsetail  Falls to Lake in the Woods and from Ralston Peak to Cup Lake and the trail back down. Expect bouldering and some exposure to climb the falls.

    Trail Head start:  Pyramid Creek Trail Head to Horsetail Falls, just East of Strawberry on hwy 50 at 8:45  Trail Head finish:  Camp Sacramento Ralston Peak Trailhead.

    Since we will be in Desolation Wilderness only 6 people can sign up for this hike.

    Trip description: 

    We will start by climbing Horsetail Falls and going to Ropi Lake, cross the dam and then hike to the Lake in the Woods trail.  We will find the trail on the south side of Lake in the Woods and make our way to the Ralston Peak trail that comes from Echo Lake.  We will take this to the peak.  From the peak we will hike an easy off trail to Cup Lake and lateral over to the Ralston trail going back down to Camp Sacramento.

    Cars will be stashed at Camp Sacramento.  A car will be at the trail head.

    Be Prepared:

    Be prepared for Thunderstorms.Be prepared for Thunderstorms.

    Please pay drivers $4.00 per hour of driving..

    Have at least 2 liters of water although we can pump at Cup Lake.  

    Please take the 10 essentials for safe back country hiking.

      Some like poles, some don't. I've been on this trail and it's not necessary.

    I'm sooooo sorry to miss this! I've been looking forward to it for a while now. But United Van Lines is delivering some things to me and they just pushed back the delivery date to Saturday. :(
