Okay we'll try again here. And hopefully there won't be another fire...
Distance: Sierra Buttes, about 5.2 miles out and back.
Approximate Elevation Gain: 7,000 to 8,591 (1,591 feet)
Sierra Buttes / Parker Lake / PCT Trailhead:
The PCT Trailhead is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile after the end of a paved road (just past the junction of Parker Lake Road and County Road 621); the trailhead begins just above Parker Lake at the well marked PCT trailhead off County Road 621. During our climb we may still see wildflowers and butterflies since spring usually hits the high Sierra in early to mid summer. Our ascent will take us directly past Lower and Upper Tamarack Lakes on the way to the ridge line. From the ridge line we will follow a 4x4 trail that leads directly to the bottom of the Sierra Buttes lookout tower. See trail maps and information at the links below:
Directions to the trailhead:
Highway 80 to Truckee. Exit Highway 89 north to Sierraville. Highway 49 west 10 miles to Bassetts. North on the Gold Lake Highway and 1.5 miles to Sardine Lake/Packer Lake Road. Turn left, cross small bridge, and bear right on Packer Lake Road. Pass Packer Lake and bear left at fork. Follow signs to Pacific Crest Trail trailhead. Continue to small parking area.
