Full moon hike - Training Hill to Cool for pizza and Karaoke

FRIENDLY REMINDER: Plans change all the time. If yours does for this evening, which prevents you from attending, please change your RSVP so that others can take your place.

Knock knock. Who's there? Hike. Hike who?

On this full moon night
Spirits are waiting for you
Scare them with your song

Michael Jackson, Thriller: http://bit.ly/5wnBi2
Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil: http://bit.ly/1bBWeEI
Warren Zevon, Werewolves of London: http://bit.ly/19y37AR
Jimmy Buffett, Vampires Mummies and the Holy Ghost: http://bit.ly/1fvc9oe

Optional: Wear a Halloween-type costume that you can hike in or just orange and black.

We will hike from the American River confluence to American River Pizza in Cool. We'll end up at the Milestone Saloon where we can have fun with Karaoke.

Hike up Training Hill (.9 miles of strenuous ascent on dirt and rocks). Regroup at the top of the hill. At this time, you may order food from American River Pizza. I will have menus available. We will continue to Cool via the Olmstead Loop. At American River Pizza, you may eat there or take your food to go to Milestone Saloon, where they have Karaoke. Leave the saloon at 10-10:30 p.m. and return on the Wendell T. Robie trail back to the confluence. This is a loop hike. We will not go back down the hill.

Please don't make this your first hike ever.

Singing while hiking is encouraged! It helps keep the critters at bay. This is the time to practice your Karaoke! What is your favorite scary Halloween song?

Suggested items to bring: Bug repellent; headlamp or flashlight (pointed down, please), but we prefer to use straight moonlight as much as possible; lots of water.

Wear good hiking boots and comfortable clothes. Poles are recommended.

Dogs okay, if you don't mind tying them up outside the establishments. All other rules for dogs apply.

Suggested gas money for your driver: $4

~7 miles total

6:00 p.m. - Meet at Sunsplash Park and Ride (Taylor/Atlantic exit), leave promptly at 6:10. Carpooling as much as possible is recommended as there is limited free parking by the trailhead.

7:30 pm - Regroup at the top of Training Hill (those who wish can order food, I have menus)

8:30 pm - Arrive at the restaurant - OPTIONAL: You may get your food to go and proceed to the saloon. Get your song requests in as soon as possible!

10 - 10:30 pm - Leave the saloon

First time full moon Training Hill hike. Wow. What a fun time we had. Somehow doing the hill at night seemed easier. My fav part was to watch all the very talented hiker-singers sing, and I enjoyed dancing with my hiking boots on :). I'm so glad I went. Thank you, Chico!!

That was a BLAST lat night. I especially enjoyed the Clash's "I fought the law" but WE WON! Oh, and the hike was fantastic and beautiful under the clear sky and white ball that bounced on our words. And the people who came were choicest. Thanks all. Next time we'll gobble it up and show our stuffing!

Jeremy, I can't see taking more than 30 to a pizza place and small country bar.

Chico, I've got a late meeting this aftternoon and may run a little late. If I'm not at the green gate by 6:40, start without me and I'll catch up with the group in route to AR pizza!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
