Moonlight hike - Training Hill to Cool for pizza and Karaoke

Knock knock. Who's there? Hike. Hike who?

Almost the full moon
Clear, crisp and chilly evening
Thank you hiker friends!

We will hike from the American River confluence to American River Pizza in Cool. We'll end up at the Milestone Saloon where we can have fun with Karaoke.

http://www.americanriverpizza.com/About-Us.html

Hike up Training Hill (.9 miles of strenuous ascent on dirt and rocks). Regroup at the top of the hill. At this time, you may order food from American River Pizza. I will have menus available. We will continue to Cool via the Olmstead Loop. At American River Pizza, you may eat there or take your food to go to Milestone Saloon, where they have Karaoke. Leave the saloon at 10-10:30 p.m. and return on the Wendell T. Robie trail back to the confluence. This is a loop hike. We will not go back down the hill.

Please don't make this your first hike ever.

Singing while hiking is encouraged! It helps keep the critters at bay. This is the time to practice your Karaoke. What is your favorite Thanksgiving song?

Suggested items to bring: Bug repellent; headlamp or flashlight (pointed down, please), but we prefer to use straight moonlight as much as possible; lots of water.

Wear good hiking boots and comfortable clothes. Poles are recommended.

Dogs okay, if you don't mind tying them up outside the establishments. All other rules for dogs apply.

Suggested gas money for your driver: $4 (don't forget this)

~7 miles total

6:00 p.m. - Meet at Sunsplash Park and Ride (Taylor/Atlantic exit), leave promptly at 6:10. Carpooling as much as possible is recommended as there is limited free parking by the trailhead.

6:40 pm - Meet at the trailhead (directions below)

7:30 pm - Regroup at the top of Training Hill (those who wish can order food, I have menus)

Why did the turkey cross the road?

8:30 pm - Arrive at the restaurant - OPTIONAL: You may get your food to go and proceed to the saloon. Once at the saloon, get your song requests in as soon as possible!

10 - 10:30 pm - Leave the saloon - we will all decide when, but no later than 10:30. (The saloon's clock is on bar time, which is about 10 minutes fast.)

11:30 p.m. - Estimated ending time back at the confluence, but don't be scared, we'll be together!

12 a.m. - Estimated time back at Sunsplash

It was an exhilarating (nature in moonlight), painful (Towards the end of training hill)), rewarding (Meeting new people and realizing how great they all are and how good they sing) vindicating (I did it!), fun (music, dancing) experience for me. Thanks for the invite Mary. Thanks Chico for the leadership.

Hi Carolyn. Unless someone responded to you, I recommend driving directly to the trailhead. See you there!

The hike in the moonlight was beautiful. Makes it so much easier going up Training Hill when you can't see how far you still have to go to get to the top! Fun group of people. Singers were pretty darned good - lotsa talent in this group! Thank you for organizing these hikes, Chico!

Beautiful moonlit hike with great company. Must say... I've never been on a hike that ended up drinking beer, listening to amazing karaoke singers belt out great songs and dancing in hiking boots. Had a blast!!! Hope to hike with you all again soon :-)

All, please note the approximate return time. You will probably return to your car after midnight. I would like to all try and leave the saloon at the same time. If you must leave sooner, please arrange that with your car group and let me know.

I know it will be dark. If it's wet or icy, I'm not going up that #@%! hill!
