Auburn Hill Hike Revisited! *Eagle's Nest*

Grab your flashlight and join me in the foothills of Auburn for an intermediate walk up and down the MANY hills that make this the foothills! We will walk up to 6 miles in about two hours on a mix of roads, sidewalks and the Western States Trail, so wear good walking shoes or hiking boots. The route may vary each week, but it will include LOTS of hills! Bring a flashlight/headlamp in the fall and winter and bring bug spray and sunscreen in the spring and summer. Also bring one to two liters of water.

MEETUP LOCATION IS RAILHEAD PARK IN AUBURN. From Sacramento/Roseville, travel east on I-80. Take the Maple St. exit. Go straight up and through a stop sign, and then straight through a signal light. You are now on Auburn/Folsom Rd., and you just passed the historic courthouse on your right. Go through the next signal light (Auburn fairgrounds is on the left) and turn left at the next signal light at Pacific Ave. (If you come to Maidu Ave., you have gone too far.) Continue straight on Pacific until you see the parking lot for Railhead Park on your left. There are restrooms and a drinking fountain available at this park.

We will begin the walk in Auburn at 6:00pm, so plan to arrive a few minutes early, so we can leave right at 6:00. If you are running late, please call me, and we will wait a few minutes for you. My cell phone number is[masked]-0710. This is a non-smoking event. No dogs. Children who are able to walk 6 miles welcome. Pouring rain cancels. Heat of 90 degrees or above slows the pace down.

This hike is also posted on Auburn Adventures, Foothill Hikers and Roseville Trail-Bike-Hike-Jog-Run-Outdoor Club. If you are wait-listed here, be certain to check those other listings to confirm your spot.

Jillian, Sorry I did not see your posting until Monday afternoon, just before the hike. My hikes are for beginners to intermediate levels. One hike follows a steep, paved route to the river and back again. I'm guessing the elevation drop is about 600 feet in less than 2 miles. This is a short but challenging hike. The other routes are not as extreme. We hike through neighborhoods that include an optional steep drop and return. Anyone can take a break and wait for the other hikers return. Usually about 20 minutes.
