FLIPPIN' FRIDAY - Lunch at Cool Beerwerks - 7 Miles R/T Intermediate - ADV/INT

A local brew in Cool?  Yes, that does sound cool, and what better way to enjoy it than to hike over there with a group of cool, like minded people?

Let's meet at the Confluence area in front of gate # 150 at 9.30am. See directions below.

We'll hike up the Pointed Rocks Trail, aka Training Hill (1 mile strenuous) and then continue to Cool via the Olmstead Loop.

Cool Beerwerks is a new brew pub that just recently opened near the Subway store.  It opens at 11am, and apparently offers Cool beer, alongside of other micro brews.  Oh, food is also an option!  Here's the Facebook page for it:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cool-Beerwerks/251729388291962

You don't have to eat or drink at the brew pub, btw.

After our little respite, we can either return on the Wendell T. Robie trail back to the confluence, or cross over 49 and come back down along the Quarry Trail...Let's decide on the day after we see how much time we have left.

This hike will be approx 7 miles roundtrip with the first mile being strenuous, but it'll work up a thirst for a beer sampling!

*** Please, please, if you haven't hiked much before or are just getting into it, don't attempt this hike.  Training Hill is not recommended for beginners.  It's extremely gnarly...This crew usually hikes at at least a 3 mile an hour pace.  If you want to start early on the hill and meet us at the top, that's fine.  We usually arrive around 10.15am at the peak of Training Hill.  Just let me know in your RSVP**

Directions to trailhead: Trailhead is on Hwy 49, 1¾ miles south of ASRA Park Headquarters.

Thanks for the info on the brewpub. I will be starting a little earlier and meet you at the top. I won't be going on to Cool. I have to take Jordan as he hasn't had many walks this week and as you may guess that makes him CRAZY

Just a thought. I heard the patio is dog friendly even if the clients are inside. Would Jordan do ok out there by himself for a while?

If it is indeed warm enough, we can all sit outside. It's just hard to know at this point, as I see snow on my driveway!

Hey gang, I just called the brew pub and gave them a heads up this time that we're coming for lunch and asked for an inside table this time. It's hard to know how cold it will be up there tomorrow, but it'll probably be chillier than last time. Also, be forewarned, there may still be some snow on the trail - I was at Cardiac yesterday and there was still a fair amount on the upper parts....Brghhhh....

Is your pace moderate fast or moderate slow.

    December 7, 2013

    • Carla

Hi Barbara, I would say moderate fast, but it depends on the participants. Come along and try it, I'm sure you'll have fun.

There is generally at least one straggler (me) on these Friday hikes. I walk more slowly to keep sparks from flying off my boots and setting grassfires.

Don't we always have fun? I always do, even though my feet beg to tell me otherwise at the end.

    C U guyz on Friday!

Doubtful, Sherpa. When you combine exercise, outdoors, & good friends ... and beer... not usually a good outcome. sadly.

    will we have fun?
