Okay, it's two days after Thanksgiving. Time to get out and hike off some of that turkey and enjoy being in nature.
So please join me for an easy hike up the north fork of the American River to Lake Clementine and back. We will do an 'out and back' of about 6 miles and about 400 feet of elevation gain, passing under the high bridge that is the wall paper for this site.
We've done this hike before, but it's new if you haven't done it yet. And even if you have done it, this is just an excuse to get out in a beautiful setting for an easy hike.
We'll have time for a snack, or lunch, at Lake Clementine before we head back.
This hike is dog friendly, but there are bikes on this trail so best to keep them on a leash as the park rules require.
We should be back by 2 PM for all you 'hurry-uppers', but why be in a hurry?
Initial indications are that the weather will be good for the hike.
I hope you will join me on this nice, easy hike.
Take I-80 to Auburn and exit Elm Ave. (exit 119C) and turn LEFT at the light.
At the next light (High Street) turn LEFT and follow around.
Continue THROUGH the next light (Lincoln Way) and drop down into the canyon.
At the river, turn RIGHT and cross over the bridge.
Park immediately over the bridge along the road on your right (free parking). Best to back into a space so you can see traffic when exiting as this is hiway 49.
Then hike back over the bridge (careful..no pedestrian walk) and up-river to the restrooms at the other bridge where we will meet at 9:40.
(Note: If you have a parking pass, or care to pay the $10, you can park near the restrooms and save the walk from free parking)
