Exploratory Hike in Auburn Hills

I am going to explore in order to measure a loop I have not done before.  I will be starting at the Quarry Trail Head aka Western States Trail and walk along the Middle Fork of the American River until we reach Browns Bar.  We will head up Browns Bar (see photo taken last week) to Wendell Robie aka Upper Western States Trail where we will follow it back towards Hwy 49 and the Confluence. Rain Cancels!

We may come down the PG&E trail or somewhere beyond it.  I'm thinking about 8 to 9 miles total with 600 to 800 feet elevation gain.  Be aware that last weeks exploration hike took me 16.1 miles.  I don't anticipate this but if you are joining me come with an open mind and willingness to explore a little.  The views were fantastic last week and the trail was gradual down once I reached the top. If you have a deadline I suggest you pass on this one.

Things to bring;

Weather appropriate layered clothes

Good hiking boots (water proof prefered) and hiking poles as the recent rain may have caused some slippery areas.

Lunch and Snacks

Plenty of Water

An Adventurous Attitude

Directions;  I-80 east, exit at Elm, turn Left and then left on Hwy 49 at the light.  Take Hwy 49 down the hill to the Confluence then turn right towards Cool.  Cross the bridge and park the far end of the road side parking for free or go a little further and turn left into the parking lot that ends at green gate 151.  This is where the hike will start.

    What a great adventure and met a few new friends as well. We explored areas we haven't been before and ended up in a residential neighborhood. Thank God for GPS for getting us back on the trail again. We ended up doing an 11.3 miles loop. I will post the GPS profile soon.

      Many of the roads in my neighborhood are blocked due to marathon. I am not going to make it on time so am taking my name off hike. Sorry, Shelley
