CAMPING: Hat Creek in Lassen National Forest

HAT CREEK CAMPGROUND has great reviews and is better located than Butte Lake.

Location:  Located 26 miles from Burney, California one mile from Old Station along Hwy 89 near the intersection of State Route 44 and 89.
Elevation:  4,400 ft

The whole place is first-come first served so I will leave our site numbers posted to the group on the camp information board.

Suggested Itinerary

Thursday afternoon: Cinder Cone which is amazing

Friday morning: Lava tubes
Friday afternoon: Burney Falls area

Saturday: Mt. Lassen (if it's open) or Brokeoff Mountain or a portion of the PCT

Please bring your own food and gear, but you can use my cook stove, pots, pans, dish soap, plates, cups. napkins, silverware, etc.

    Thanks to all for the great camping trip and hikes to Cinder cone, burney falls, Bumpass's he'll, Brokeoff mountain, Lava tubes and more in one long weekend camping trip. Figure some did about 5000 ft vertical and about 18 miles total. Fun playing games at camp too. Great weekend, Shannon & Burt - thanks for organizing. Jimmy

    Lassen Peak 2014 Access Dates
    Lassen Peak trail restoration project will continue throughout the summer. Work will resume June 2, 2014. On that date, the trail will be closed to all travel at Grandview ,approximately 1.3 miles from the trailhead. The trail will be open to the summit (2.5 miles) only on the following dates (weather dependent):

    Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15 (Father's Day weekend)
    Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6 (Independance Day weekend)
    Friday, August 8 through Sunday, August 10 (Full moon on 10th)
    Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1 (Labor Day weekend)
    Friday, September 26 through Sunday, September 28 (Public Lands Day - fee free Sept. 27 / Art & Wine Festival)
    Friday, October 10 through Monday, October 13 (Columbus Day weekend)
