Writing Story in a Wild World

Good storytelling involves elements of conflict, tension, climactic action, observational detail, characterization, and resolution that are not always found in nature writing. The wild world of Point Reyes and the drama of outdoor life offer countless opportunities for good storytelling. Author, naturalist, and instructor Rebecca Lawton will lead a two-day investigation into allowing nature to inspire a good story. With plenty of retreat time for writing, workshops with optional sharing, exploration of the national seashore, and dialoguing on story craft, participants will further a work in progress, get started on something new, and find solutions for problem passages. We will use our keen observation of both nature and language to craft stories that engage, move, satisfy—and bring in the wild world that inspires us. Accommodations included at the Historic Lifeboat Station
