ECHO SUMMIT SNOWSHOW----about 7 miles round trip and 1700 vert.

Well, January was a washout, so hopefully this date brings excellent conditions and awesome scenery!  Join me as we slowly ascend southward through forest and meadows, rising up to steep cliffs and, finally, panoramic views from our 9000 foot turnaround point.

Different fitness levels are welcome, and folks can go at their own pace. We will simply re-trace our tracks back to the cars.  More advanced hikers should be able to reach the uppermost slopes and turnaround point, and all should have little problem reaching the large, scenic meadow about 1/2 way up.  Planning on lunch at summit of hike.

***MAJOR SNOW-STORM OR LACK OF SNOW COVERAGE CANCELS OR CHANGES EVENT ---CHECK FOR UPDATE 2-3 DAYS PRIOR***

Plan on leaving carpool site in Folsom by 7:45 latest

**ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD HAVE PROPER  ATTIRE FOR COLD, DETERIORATING WEATHER!!

Suggested items:  COTTON NOT RECOMMENDED. Warm gloves or mittens, optional glove liners, waterproof pants and jacket, fleece and other warm layer, long underwear layer, waterproof boots (can use 2 produce plastic bags per foot for extra water-resistance), gaiters, sun-hat, fleece head cap, sunscreen, lip-balm, poles, lunch,  2 liters water, sunglasses, camera, whistle.

**ALL VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE CHAINS, SNOW-TIRES, OR 4 WHEEL DRIVE**

Directions: Take Hwy 50 East about 73 miles to Echo Summit (elev. 7300).  Turn RIGHT into  entrance to Adventure Mountain ($15 fee per car), where we will park. (If start downhill and see Lake Tahoe, you've missed turnoff). Gate opens  9:00am.

For those interested, drinks or refreshments after.  Can be reached at (916)[masked]

A fantastic time! The weather was perfect and the snow plentiful. Up to the knees and beyond in several places. The views were spectacular! What a great group of hikers. I look forward to many more adventures with you all. Thanks so much.

Beautiful view from the top, but boy, you really had to earn that view. Thanks Allan.

OMG - What a "Bum Burner!" I was so surprised at all the snow and was jazzed the weather stayed sooo beautiful. Can't believe all the falling did not lead to broken parts. - Lots of laughs! Laura and Liang, as always, a blast and blessing to spend the day with you both! Derek, you were the best - thanks for getting us back in one piece!

Great trip. Splendidly strenuous! Lots of snow. Fun people. Thanks Allan.

It was incredibly strenuous for me, but i managed to keep up with Liang, which is a major accomplishment in itself. The forecast of high winds didn't materialize and the weather was beautiful. I was in a group of ten that got lost on the way down and ended up on I-50 1/2 mile East of the sno-park, which was quite an adventure. On the drive home Paul treated us to a 1967 oldies cd and explained his theory of how Elvis didn't really die, but somehow morphed into Tony Bennett. I hadn't heard that theory before.

Who said there would hardly be any snow for this hike?? Thanks Allan for following up on this hike. Lucky me; I always manage to go with happy "to be there" hikers. I would like to thank Teresa and Bryon for getting us back on track at the end of the hike by following the blue marked arrows. To my carpool people; Andy,Jeanine, and Trese you made it very fun! I thank everyone for a WONDERFUL day!

Thanks, Allan, for putting the trip together and sticking with it despite last minute questions about the snow. Perfect weather enhanced beautiful terrain and views. Also, thanks to Tom for sticking with me on the way down, so we didn't get too lost. :)

Nice group of folks, with some novice snow-shoers who did very well on a fairly tough slope! Thanks to Andy (and Ron R.) for doing the trail-breaking up high. Look forward to Echo next year :)

It was difficult to follow the trail on the way down and we got lost-for a short time. But, there was a great group of people on the hike and we had fabulous weather and even more amazing views.

That did get kind of scrambled, didn't it. There's 2 lots at the corner of Folsom & Iron Point. We use the 1 on the east side of Iron Point, below the McDonald's. There's entrances on both the Folsom side & the Iron Point side.

Ron, the cross st. is Folsom Blvd. There is a light rail station, and it's near the outlet stores.

I'm not sure I know where on Iron point the P&R is. How about a cross st or store nearby? Thx

I will need a ride with someone. I got into some Poison Oak last weekend and my eyelids are swollen half shut. I wouldn't be able to drive even if I wanted to. Don't worry, it's not contagious at this point!

Hi All, I just now bumped into a friend who was coming back from South shore and she said there was litteraly no snow on Horsetail falls. I was at the top of Sierra on Monday, and though there was snow, it was very spotting and rocky. ripped up my skis. Also, it is supposed to snow up there on Sat am but just snow showers. so that could make things a little better . . . or not depending on how bad it snow. Alan, Let us know tomorrow in time to rent snowshoes if it is still a go.

There was lots of snow at the same elevation at Castle Peak off the 80 2 weeks ago. There hasn't been much snow lately so it'll be icy. The forecast for Saturday is for a windy day.

Sorry, that link doesn't work. Just go to the National Weather Service map of the area. They have a forecast and satellite map of the area

It looks like there is patchy snow in the area. Here is a NWS map and forecast of the area ecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=[masked]&lon=[masked]&site=rev&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text
