Yosemite Falls

Yosemite in a day? Oh, yes we can!

4:50am arrange carpools at REI on their southside lot
5:00am sharp leave Sacramento (not waiting for stragglers unless you call and let us know)
9:45am estimated arrival at shuttle stop #7 This allows for a quick breakfast stop and time to park.
10:00pm estimated return to Sacramento

Breakfast on the way somewhere along Hwy 99
Packed lunch, snacks, electrolytes, layers, etc. packed
Dinner on the way home TBD
Bring money for breakfast ($10), dinner ($20), carpool ($35), entrance fee ($5 if there are four in your car) about $70 all together.

We hope to hike clear to the top of Yosemite Falls and the extra mile to Yosemeite Point overlook, but if you get tired or achey you can stop at any point along the way and hang out somewhere beautiful until we get back. You'll have to communicate with your car group.

Upper Yosemite Falls
7.2 miles round-trip; 6 to 8 hours; 2,700 feet elevation gain
7.6 miles round trip to the falls overlook
9.2 miles round trip to Yosemite Point overlook

Begin at the Yosemite Falls Trailhead, Camp 4 (shuttle stop #7)

One of Yosemite's oldest historic trails (built 1873 to 1877), the Yosemite Falls Trail leads to the top of North America’s tallest waterfall 2,425 feet above the Valley floor. Do not stray off the marked path, as you will find steep drops adjacent to the trail. Enjoy spectacular views from Columbia Rock located one mile (and dozens of switchbacks) from the trailhead.

    May 15, 2013

hi stephanie... i'm new to the group. so far i'm driving by myself. i would'nt mind having company if you're up for it. i drive an older green honda civic.

      May 15, 2013

    • Shannon B

At REI we will set up carpools with the people who actually show up. It's better if the driver (or navigator) is comfortable with the driving route or is really good at following directions.

Is anyone staying there on Friday or Saturday night?

    May 14, 2013

    • Tim

Yes, there's a car leaving Friday, returning Sunday. Contact me for details!

      May 15, 2013

  • Tim

There's a carpool leaving Friday afternoon and coming back Sunday afternoon. Lodge already booked - about 45 dollars per night. Drive down Friday, eat dinner there, sleep, get up and have leisurely breakfast and wait for everyone else to arrive Saturday morning then hike. After hike, we'll go out to dinner (showing first, I hope) and then play some card games, tell ghost stories, etc. Then sleep the night, get up, and hike Sunday for however long we want to and then drive back to Sacramento.

    Please contact me for details...

Is this for advanced hikers? Ive been on a 5mile hike in pt reyes for my first hike and have been taking bootcamp gym classes but I dont wanna get stuck out there if its really steep HAHA

    April 26, 2013

    • Shannon B

Dan is right. The trail is well traveled and you can turn around at anytime.

      May 14, 2013

    • Will L

It depends on what you mean by "advanced". You won't need climbing gear. The distance will probably not be a problem for you. The elevation gain of 2700 feet is twice the height of the Empire State Building + another 250 feet.

      May 14, 2013

  • GLORIA

Just wondering on the carpool is that $35 for each person ?

    April 25, 2013

    • diane

      yes

      April 26, 2013

    • Shannon B

Yes, it's almost 8 hours of driving and a lot of work. Plus the entracne fee...

      May 14, 2013

  • Mike

Shannon you might best answer this. When we get to the valley floor are we parking in Day Parking in the Parking Area located on Northside Drive and then shuttling over to shuttle stop #7? Or was there some other place over by the trail head to park. I know you can park on the road but not sure how close to the trail head that would be.

    May 2, 2013

    • Shannon B

There is a lot at Camp 4, also one at the village, both are closer to stop #7, but the apple orchard lot by Curry Village is a safe back up.
