Flippin' Friday ASRA PARK HQ (incl. Training Hill) 7 miles - 9:00am - Int/Adv

Let's meet at the ASRA HQ (Auburn State Recreation Area HQ) on HWY 49 at 9.30am. That's the building on your left as you're coming down HWY 49 on your way to the Confluence that has the Smokey Bear sign out front. There is free parking by the ranger station.

THIS WILL BE THE LAST TRAINING HILL OF 2012 for me. Boo hoo...

From the Park HQ we'll take the Access Trail to the Western States Trail and cross the No Hands Bridge. From there it's up the old Training Hill (1000 ft elevation gain in 1 mile - not for the faint of heart or short of breath). We can loop back via Pig Farm back down to the river before deciding whether to hike back up the way we came from HQ, or to circle around via Stagecoach.

I estimate the total distance to be about 6-7 miles with 2 decent hills...ie plenty of workout...But, I've been known before to underestimate, so please be prepared to put in an extra mile if needs be.

As always, bring water, walking sticks, good shoes, snacks if required and most important, a good sense of humor. We may need it!!!

*** Please, if you have never hiked before, or are just getting back into it, please don't attempt this trail. It is steep and gnarly, and not recommended for beginners.***

Directions to trailhead: Trailhead is on Hwy 49 at ASRA Park Headquarters - park at the ranger station (free).

I-80 east to Auburn Exit Elm

Left on Elm

Left on 49 (High Street)

Cross Lincoln Way down into canyon.

About 1/2 way down the big hill you'll see the turning on your left for the ASRA Park HQ - turn in here and find parking by the ranger station.
