Celebrate Earth Day! Hike White Oak Canyon, AT, Hawksbill, and Cedar Run in SNP

  • This location is shown only to members

This will be a strenuous and medium to fast paced hike on some of the gems of Shenandoah National Park. This loop hike is 12 miles and includes 3500' of elevation gain with equal loss. Both White Oak Canyon and Cedar Run trails pass many beautiful waterfalls.

Participants must be in good physical condition and be able to maintain at least a medium pace for the day. At a minimum, bring the following: hiking boots, extra clothes, raingear, sunblock, lunch, energy snacks, and two quarts of water.

From 495, take Rt 66 West, 2nd Exit onto Rt. 123 North, Left at the 5th traffic light into the Oakton Shopping Center. Meet in the parking lot between McDonald's and Starbucks, I'm driving a blue Nissan 350Z.

I enjoyed hiking with the three participants who showed up! Four fast, strong, congenial hikers making a beautiful day even better.

The weather looks great but a little cool. Remember the temperature will drop about 3 degrees F for every 1000' of elevation gain although we won't be hitting Hawksbill until mid afternoon when it will be warmer. So bring at least one insulation layer for when we stop for lunch and on Hawksbill.

Nancy and Natalie will be meeting the rest of us at the Ranger Shack at the Trail Head.

Looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow.

Is anyone coming from the DC area? I'd like to attend but I live in DC and don't have a car.
