My hikes usually have both new and returning hikers & it's ALWAYS an adventure!!

has nice views on both sides of Great North Mountain from the ridge just before arriving at Gerhard Shelter. The views of the valley from Vance's Cove can be wonderful on a clear day as well, but the main attraction is the solitude.

4.5 hour hike (we’ll go a faster pace than HikingUpward)
We keep a steady pace – not running, not meandering. My goal is to find same skilled hikers. Sooooooo if you are new to DIFFICULT hikes with me and RSVP 'yes' contact me same day or I will relunctanctly change your RSVP to 'no' so others may join to discuss your prior hiking experience.
Arrive early as we leave Centreville Park & Ride promptly @ 8:00am. Centreville carpooling is preferred. Some Trail Heads are difficult to find & have no cell phone service. If meeting @ the Trail Head is your preference, contact me.

14 fabulous hikers enjoyed a beautiful cool spring day on a brand new trail -- for us anyway. Sometimes a group “gels”. We pretty much kept the same pace (ok maybe going up was a bit harder for some), had the same sense of humor and seemed to thoroughly enjoy each other’s company. It was fun to reminisce @ Soul Mountain Restaurant afterwards. $65 has been donated to Potomac Appalachian Trail Club for “trail lands” and posted in the Meet up files. As some of you know, my daughter went to the emergency room this morning @ 7am. I learned about it on the way to Soul Mountain. They are still doing tests trying to determine why she is in pain. If any of you have “special insights” to the powers that be, please send healing thoughts to her.
