Lets take advantage of the evening light and lovely weather while we can. Rock Creek is one of the natural gems of the DC metro area. Come help me explore its many trails.
Distance: About five miles. We’ll loop north from the mill and do a variety of trails.
Duration: about 2 hours
Hikers: I like a brisk pace 2.5 to 3 miles per hour. Not a good hike for new or out of shape hikers.
When: Hike LEAVES at six. Please arrive a few minutes early.
Where to Meet: We meet at the Peirce Mill parking area, corner of Tilden and Beech drive.
Metro-Several blocks from Van Ness Metro station.
Facilities: There are rest room facilities at the parking area.
Scenery: Rolling woodlands, secluded creek valleys. A fair amount of up and down.
Trail surface: mostly dirt/muddy when wet. Some gravel.
Dogs: on leash
Rain. I hike rain or shine- bring a raincoat of it looks like rain is a possibility.
Fees: This is a National Park, but there is NO entrance fee.
To Bring: Water, insect repellent, snacks.
Park Info: http://www.nps.gov/rocr/index.htm
Now that it’s getting dark earlier bring a flashlight.
As you know there is no charge for the hikes, but the organization does have to pay a fee to the Meet-up Company, and has other expenses for maps etcetera. The group asks for an annual donation of $1.50 or so. You may pay online using the button on the left side of the screen that’s just below the Our Calendar link.
