Sat AM Hike in MD, Great Falls (MD Side), Billy Goat Trail

Hi all, i am new to this group - I would like to meet at the visitor's center at 830am on the MD side. from there we can hike the billy goat trail, it is about 1.7 miles. - people can go further on the trail if they wish.

Section A is best accessed from the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center. All sections of the trail are free, although an entrance fee ($5 per car - 2012) is charged when entering and parking near the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center.  Dogs are not allowed on Section A, but are allowed on a leash everywhere else in the park. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to do the Section A loop from the parking lot.

If you need any clarification about where to meet, etc. let me know.

Cars pay $5 to enter!

My experience on the trail to Billy Goat was very satisfactory in all respects. My surprise was to see how this place so beautiful and so close to where I live was unknown to me until yesterday that started from the little house the entry at this place ... with my teammates that certainly, is very rewarding to know new people. The path in terms of time was short, but intense and rewarding, daring to say that we were also brave, as the stone path we passed was very challenging and at times even difficult, having to think and decide where to put our feet ... reaching panoramic views into the Potomac River. The views are stunning and beautiful as well as the countless waterfalls and various aspects of them. Definitely these are the moments that really stay with us.

There are plenty of parking at the park. It will be hard to miss once past the entrance.

I'm used to parking near Old Angler's Inn as well. Looking at Google-maps, the Visitor Center is about 2 miles up MacArthur from Old Anglers; opposite ends of the park.

I have to admit, i don't know where the old angler's inn is. all i know is that you physically have to go into the park - i take falls road til it winds around, and then turn right into the park, pay the fee, and then i go off to my left, to the white visitors center. it is a short distance from the park + i think there is a bridge close by it.

Hello everyone, I always park at Old Anger's Inn - where is the visitor's center in relation to Old Angler's Inn?

Hi Joan - the hike will definitely take less than 2.5 hours, but some folks may want to walk along the toe path and extend their time out there...

Will it take 2.5 hours to do the 1.7 mile hike or does the 2.5 hour pertain to something else? Thanks.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
