Join me at Potomac Appalachian Trail Club's Vining Cabin, 100 miles from the beltway, for a fall weekend of hiking Friday October 19 - Sunday October 21.
COSTS: Pay your $30 as soon as you RSVP. In the past some have excitedly RSVPed but never paid. Others then thought the meet up was full so did not sign up. Several have cancelled so be the first to RSVP AND send me $30. Yes, it's $30 total for one or both nights.
REFUNDS: Refunds are complicated. A refund is unlikely if you change your RSVP and another hiker does not send me payment for your spot.

HIKING:You are welcome to hike with me and/or create your own hikes. I have never been to this cabin. It's a 20 minute drive to the Shenandoah's central entrance plus hiking is all around us. Links are posted below.
FOOD: Meals, snacks, liquids etc. are each hiker’s responsibility. I'm not a cook so if someone wants to organize evening meals great. There is electricity, range, refrigerator/freezer and microwave along with a wood stove and some cooking utensils.
WATER: Wellwater is pumped into the house to a toilet, shower, bathroom and kitchen sinks. Pumped spring water should be fine but do bring enough drinking water for hiking, etc. or a way to filter your water just in case.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: While there are beds and mattresses some are doubles and some may not be comfortable. Remember it is $30 for 2 nights. I suggest you bring an air mattress sleeping bag, pillow and ear plugs.
CABIN LOCATION: PATC Map 11 L-3. Vining Cabin is located on the Mutton Hollow Farm 4 miles from Stanardsville, VA. Depending on weather and road conditions it may be a .4 mile hike to the cabin. We may access the cabin after 3pm on Friday and must leave before 3pm Sunday.
CABIN HISTORY: Vining Tract is a classic example of a 19th Century Appalachian farm containing a log cabin, numerous barns, other buildings and pastures surrounded by stone & rail fences. The farm is located in a valley at the bases of Hill Top and Daniels Mountains. Vining Cabin is an original chestnut log structure, estimated to be more than 100 years old with a stone addition. There are 2 large sitting rooms each with a fireplace. Mattie's Run, a clear, rocky stream as well as several other PATC cabins are nearby.
DRIVING: Detailed directions will be sent to those attending. Depending on weather and road conditions it may be a .4 mile hike to the cabin. We won't know until we get there. Use meet up postings or email hikers directly to form carpools. If carpooling, please provide your driver $15 for gas to/from cabin plus $ to/from hiking.
SAFETY: When hiking, I carry my phone, driver’s license, medical insurance card, credit card, cash, headlamp, whistle, first aid items.
HIKING SHOES OR BOOTS are important.
HIKING POLES are helpful.
CAMERA: But of course!!
HUMOR: An absolute must
PETS: NOT allowed
