HIKING: You are welcome to hike with me and/or create your own activities. There are endless hiking opportunities.

The Appalachian Trail is outside our front door.  As the mid-point of the Appalachian Trail's 2,178 miles, Harpers Ferry is the  Appalachian Trail Headquarters.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (HFNHP) is considered one of the best walking parks in America.  The views are sublime, the history compelling, the restored town a work of historical art.  The variety of trails coupled with nationally significant history and the scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Potomac and Shenandoah River valleys adds up to a unique hiking experience. Click here for hiking trail overview. HFNHP encompasses almost 4,000 acres in WV, MD and VA.

Visitors may also hike along the 185 mile towpath of Chesapeak and Ohio Canal National Historical Park by crossing the footbridge over the Potomac River.  The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail overlays the C&O Canal and continues north all the way to Pittsburgh, PA.

HIGHACRE Highacre is a comfortable, fully furnished 8-room  house with one bathroom with shower. There is parking at the door. The house has electricity, running hot and cold water, refrigerator, range and automatic oil head.  Cooking and eating utensils for 8 are provided.

FOOD: In general meals, snacks, liquids etc. are each hiker’s responsibility.  However, Dec 29th I'll bring Costco rotisserie chicken, lettuce and dressing along with a vegetable for all.  I'll also cook breakfast January 1 which will consist of pancakes, eggs and sausage. I don't see any good restaurants in the area.  Unless you have a solid recommendation, I suggest pot luck for Dec 30 and Dec 31st.  Let me know your preferences.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: While there are beds and mattresses some may be doubles and some may not be comfortable.  I suggest you bring an air mattress, sleeping bag, sheets, pillow, towel, soap and ear plugs.

DRIVINGDetailed directions will be sent to those attending.  Highacre Cabin is 50 miles from DC's beltway.  Use meet up postings or email hikers directly to form carpools.  If carpooling, please provide your driver $7 for gas to/from cabin plus $ to/from hiking.

SAFETY: When hiking, I carry my phone, driver’s license, medical insurance card, credit card, cash, headlamp, whistle, first aid items.

HIKING SHOES OR BOOTS are important.

HIKING POLES are helpful.

CAMERAOf course!!

Awe-freaking-some trip! Great company, a beautiful cabin, and the AT right beside the house. Oh, let's not forget Albina's fantastic meal, Leo bringing a TON of food, and who knew Edna was a ruthless dominoes shark? Thank a million, Jayne, for setting this up. Can't wait to do it again.

It's fascinating to bring together a group of people who mostly don't know each other and watch friendships jell over the next couple days. Highacre is an incredible cabin(?) and our hikes to Weaverton Cliff & Maryland Heights were fabulous. Thanks, too, for donating $25 to www.PATC.net (Order 1852) for their trail maintenance.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
