Designated in 2006 as a National Recreation Trail, the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail invites hikers to discover more than 4,000 acres of scenic woodlands on their 17+ mile trail.

If you're hoping to see bluebells you'll have to wait till spring

If you're wanting to see the Festival of Lights you'll need to come back in December.

However if you'd like to get in some exercise after Thanksgiving, then come enjoy hiking at a pace comfortable for you.

HIKING EXPECTATIONS This is a hike for any level if you’re willing to turn around in 2 hours for a total of 4 hours hiking.  We will spend time at the beginning understanding the trail, the blazes we'll follow, and where to look for arrows the fastest hiker puts along the way.  The slowest hiker picks them up on the way back. Click here.  Print.  Bring.

If there are problems along the trail, we ask all hikers to help each other.  Otherwise hike at a pace which works for you; break when you want.

There are normally a mix of those who have hiked with me b4 and those who have not. Hikers may initially know no one but that changes quickly and we ALWAYS have a great time.

There is no planned "lunch" so you may stop along the way or at a picnic table upon your return.

DRIVING Once you get into park go to Atlantis Waterpark Parking Lot.  If you need or can offer a ride please be specific in a post below.

Please take into account $5 cost;  $1 is to help Lin defray our meet up costs; $4 is for CHARITY donated to www.patc.net; the charitable organization maintaining our hiking trails.

SAFETY When hiking, I carry my phone, driver’s license, medical insurance card, credit card, cash, headlamp & whistle.

YOUR PICTURE Smile, click. I require a picture of each hiker for emergencies so don't be surprised when I take your picture

HIKING SHOES OR BOOTS are important.

HIKING POLES are helpful. My favorite are Black Diamond.

WATER ALWAYS bring more than you think you need.

SNACKS It's important to have healthy snacks to munch as you hike.

CAMERA But of course!!

HUMOR An absolute must.

PETS allowed on this hike ONLY if you call me first

I'm in total agreement on 9 "no shows" and an equal # who cancelled yesterday when lots were waitlisted for weeks. HOWEVER we certainly had the creme de la creme attend and it was a great hike. Thanks for your $6 meet up costs and $24 donated to www.PATC.net (order #1677). Now go have some hot chocolate!!

Great day for an easy hike. As always, Jayne was welcoming and organized. I was shocked at the number of no shows. So inconsiderate as there was a long wait list.

Another great hike lead by Jayne. I'm surprised at how many people didn't show up but enjoyed the company of the small group we had. Looking forward to the next hike!

Does anyone have room in their car? I'm located in Arlington near courthouse metro, so can meet anywhere near a metro stop.

Good Question CK: Come early & use the restroom just past our parking lot at the Campers Information Office. Otherwise, remember to "leave no trace" as you use the woods.

Delighted to see so many interested in joining our hike this Sunday. Do change your RSVP before Wednesday if you are no longer attending as we have a waitlist which continues to grow. The address for the hike is at the top. Email [masked] or call with questions.
