Sag Valley Trail hike

  • Oct 20, 2013 · 10:00 AM

We'll be hiking the yellow loop in the Sag Valley Trail System in Palos Park. We'll hike about 8.5 miles at an easy pace.

For anyone interested in doing the stairs a few times before the hike, I plan on getting there around 9:30. Then we'll gather at 10:00 for the hike, and hit the trail at 10:15.

9:30  Climb the stairs
10:00  gather for hike
10:15  hit the trail!

What to Bring: At least 2 liters of water and snacks to eat on the trail.

Loved being out in the wilderness and chatting with a variety of interesting and postive people. Also wanted to follow up on my misinterpretation of a drey for a bee hive sighting, if anyone cares or remembers. A squirrel's nest is often made of twigs with leaves still attached, and is about the same size as a football. The nest is lined with shredded bark, moss, dry grass or feathers, and is usually located on the branch of a very high tree or in a hollow trunk. A squirrel's nest is referred to as a drey. They often look like funky bee hives. Now I know better... at least I didnt think it was a football stuck in the tree lol.

Perfect day, good pace and great group. Sadly, I got lost and never found the Irish Legend afterhike meetup place!

Apparently Flavin Road is also called 104th. So the street sign said 104th, instead of Flavin. Confused everybody. We missed you at dinner!

Linda, In case I'm late (which I never am...but) , will you be going clockwise or counter-clockwise on the yellow trail?

I'm still in a walking cast but should be able to do the November hike. I can't wait to get back on the trail.

The link here for Sag Valley Trail System says "fpdcc.com/downloads/sv_trailmap.pdf" while the forest preserve site says "fpdcc.com/downloads/maps/pdf/sv_trailmap.pdf" in case anyone tries to see the map.
