4th of July hike at Kettle Moraine - McMiller Ski Trails

NOTE:  This is a long drive (2 hours) from Chicago, and the terrain will be very hilly. This is not a beginner hike.

This hike will pass through primarily hardwood forest and pine plantations. in Wisconsin's Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. I have never hiked these trails before, but from the DNR website, it sounds like it might be a bit hillier than than the Nordic Ski Trails.

We'll hike about 11 miles with many options to shorten. We'll hike the outer blue loop (6.5 miles), then zig-zag back through the remaining loops for a total of about 11 miles.

Afterward, we'll have a late lunch at the LaGrange General Store.

Trail Map: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/kms/pdfs/kmsmcmillermap.pdf

Hiking distance: 11 miles on hilly terrain, with options to shorten

Hiking time: approx 4 hours

Parking: $10 per car (unless you have a WI annual sticker)

Carpooling: If you need a ride or can offer a ride, make a comment in your RSVP

Hi All, I was just confirmed from the waiting list. I live by Irving Park and Broadway and would be happy to meet a driver somewhere convenient for a ride to and from. It would be ideal, though not necessary, if I could ride home with someone leaving earlier rather than later. Thank you!

Agreed. Great plan! I anyone driving is interested in carpooling, I could use a ride from Chicago. I live in Rogers Park but can meet somewhere reasonably accessible by pubtrans. Split gas, and coffee, and doughnuts are on me!
