Mississippi River Hike

This hike will focus on Part 1 of the trail. We will explore the river north of Lake St to Franklin and back to the Longfellow Grill.  It will be a moderate pace and mostly pavement.

Part 2 is an option for those who want a longer hike. You can also meet us at the Longfellow Grill and join us for Part 2 . We will probably arrive there at approx. 2:30pm

If the weather is too inclimate I will cancel the hike and offer a reschedule.

TRAIL

Route: Part I will be a counter-clockwise loop from the Lake Street Bridge to the Franklin Street Bridge returning to Dunn Bros; Part II will continue counter-clockwise to Ford Parkway Bridge and back.

Length: Part I approx. 3.8 miles, Part II approx. 5.6 miles (total 9.4 miles.)

Duration: Part I approx. 1.25 hours, Part II approx.2.5 hours, plus breaks.

Surface: Mostly paved walking surface with some woodland trail.

Conditions: City Traffic, very minor elevation changes.

Difficulty: Moderate, depending on physical condition; doing Part I only might be suitable for new members.

OTHER

Hike Time: 1PM

Scenery: Mix of remaining fall colors, should be some nice views of the river gorge.

Amenities: Free parking on the streets near Dunn Bros.

Weather: We hike rain/snow/sun, cancel only for severe weather

Recommend to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, water, snack, clothing appropriate for the weather and activity level.

No Kids, No Dogs, No +1's: Only registered members of Twin Cities Hiking Meetup may attend this hike.

Optional Social: Following the hike people often gather for breakfast/lunch at Longfellow Grill.

    Hi John,
    Yes, these hikes are quite popular. Please register yourself as a member of the Twin cities Hiking Meetup. Then scan the site for hikes. They can fill up within an hour after being posted.
    Often times people will get on the waiting list and be able to attend days before the hike. Many people's plans change and if they take themselves off the list it will bump you up.

    Moderate is what I consider 2 notches above a stroll. :) I think you can definitely complete the 1st leg of the hike easily.

    I am interested, but not sure how fast Moderate pace is, I can walk almost 3 mi/hr for a few miles.
