Old Mt Wilson Trail - Advanced

Mt. Wilson Trail (map)

Selected By: A former member

Another last minute hike. We'll be taking the Old Mt Wilson Trail all the way to the top of Mt Wilson, which lies at the boundary of the ANF closure. I'd like to hike up and get some sobering views of the burned area.

The pace will be decently brisk; I'd like to summit in 2.5 - 3 hrs. Of course anyone is welcome to join at their own pace. The trail is well marked at will likely have lots of people on the trail.

Stats:

Distance: 14-15 miles
Elevation Gain: 4500 ft
Pace: 2.5 - 3 mph
Difficulty: 8/10 Strenuous

For all trips, wear boots or sturdy shoes, and bring lunch, lots of drinks, warm clothing (depending on altitude)

The trip "leader" is a volunteer and not a real leader (i.e. not liable for the group). Think of it as hiking with a group of friends.

Joining this hike is entirely voluntary and participants assume the full risks associated with the activities. It is each hiker's responsibility to ensure that s/he is in sufficient fitness and health to participate in a strenuous hike, with the appropriate water, food, clothing, first aid, and navigation equipment for the conditions. This group and the hike organizer make no warranties about the safety or supervision of these activities.

I'll be keeping a moderate pace. So if anyone wants to go at a moderate pace, then feel free to join me. But I'm NOT going all the way up to Mt. Wilson. MAYBE...My turnaround time is 10-1030. Although the last time I did wilson was 3 hours. So maybe I'll just stay up there with all of you and go to my party all smelly...

Say hello the usual suspects in the event (more likely than not) I fail to appear tomorrow morning. Next time consider the Manzanita or Sturtevant trails to Mt. Wilson. They offer better scenery, more shade--plus beer and burgers right there at the end of the trail in Chantry Flat.
