2013 Brewery Art Walk

  • October 12, 2013 · 10:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Brewery Art Complex is an artist colony in the middle of Downtown L.A. industrial area, the last place on the planet you would expect to find anything related to art.  We all know that Los Angeles has a rather vibrant artist community.  Many of its members live and work here.

Art by itself is fascinating, but how artists live their lives is just as intriguing. From one small loft to the next, we will see creativity at work not only from the exhibits, but also from how artists decorate their living and work spaces.

How artists express his/her passion and emotion is what we are here to experience. On this special Saturday, we hope to fill our soul with passion for art.

About Brewery Art Walk:

The creation of the Brewery Arts Complex began in 1982 at the site of the Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery. With the passing of the Artist-In-Residence code, artists could rent live/work space in industrially zoned buildings. The Brewery Art Association rents only to artists and that remains its policy to this day.

In July 1997, the LA Weekly called the unique cultural landmark "the world's largest artist-in-residence community" and in a March 1999 Los Angeles Times article The Brewery was quoted as the "world's largest art complex." These are true lofts, not apartments, in industrial buildings that are a part of what has become a uniquely vibrant and creative community.

The Brewery Art Walk is a twice annual open studio weekend at the worlds largest art complex. With over 100 participating resident artists, we will have the opportunity to see new works, discover new favorites, speak with the artists and purchase artwork directly from the artists' studios.

The Art Walk takes place in the Spring and Fall, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Admission is free and so is parking.

Let me thank all of you for showing up to support this community of artists. A very memorable day it was. Weather was perfect. All of you were super friendly. It was fun and rewarding to roam the maze of studios, discover how differently artists see the world and experience how they live their life for a day. I am most appreciative of the support all of you have given me. My mojo is back.

    Hi Everyone,

Brewery Art Walk is around the corner. Please check your schedule for any conflict. If you cannot attend for any reason, please take the time to change your RSVP.

The # of no show was so high at my last recreational event, I had to see a psychiatrist afterward. My emotional state is still quite fragile at this moment. If only 19 people show up, it may turn into a full-blown PTSD. We all know that Lee Zebold is a tough but caring leader. To protect my emotional well being, he suggested that I take a roll call to identify the no-shows. He needs all the help he can get for a grand BBQ that he is planning. All no-shows will be asked to co-host the BBQ with him. For example, Lee needs someone to start the fire and keep blowing it to keep it hot for a special recipe he has in mind. I am sure you will find that task inspiring.

Got to work last min so sad. .

    October 10, 2013

  • Larry T

This should be fun. But from my experience, you could spend the whole day going through the many galleries and still not see it all. Don't even try. It's easy to linger 30 minutes or longer at one gallery if a particular artist's work appeals to you. Just take in as much as you can and plan to come back when they have it again.

    Mike,
even if 9 people will show up we will have great time - don't stress out, just hold extra parking space for me :)

Is anyone willing to carpool from Valencia/Santa Clarita Valley?

    October 9, 2013

  • Mike C.

    Hi Everyone,

In the past, recreational events tend to have exceedingly high % of no show.

From your profile photo and personal information, all of you seem to be fun-loving, responsible and trustworthy individuals. My heart would be severely wounded and feeling permanently bruised if only 19 people show up.

Most of you know our founder Lee Zebold as an all round tough guy. Under his rule, if you don't show up, you would be asked to host the next hike to Mt. Whitney or something of equal challenge.

Please check your schedule for potential conflicts. If you cannot attend for any reason, please change your RSVP. Thanks.

Mike, my father's quite ill and I might have to bail with little notice, so I'll relinquish my RSVP. Don't want to take a spot someone else could enjoy if there's a strong chance I won't be able to attend.

Ken, By 1 pm, we may be gone. Stephanie, No worries. Take care of your father first.

    Hi Everyone:

L.A. Hiking Group is an all volunteer organization. It is efforts of volunteers that make every one of our events possible.

This is a large group so I will need several volunteers who have been to this event in the past to assist me. If you are willing and able, please email me. Thank you

  • Mike C.

This is a 2 day event. However, many artists, particularly the successful ones, closed their studios on Sunday. From my past experience, the best time to visit the exhibits is early Saturday before quality pieces are sold and removed from exhibits.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
