Highland Park to Pasadena

An urban hike of 7 to 8 miles from Downtown Highland Park to Downtown Pasadena via obscure neighborhoods, unusual points of interest, and multiple public stairways.

Not for beginners.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen or a hat.  We will be traversing pavement and exposed to the sun most of the way.  Bring water and, if you don't care for pub cuisine, pack a lunch.

Highlights include several of the longest and most scenic public stairways in Los Angeles, Johnson Lake, Castle Green, Abbey San Encino--the distinctive home built nearly a century ago by printer Clyde Browne, grandfather of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne--and segments of the Arroyo Seco and Old Pasadena, as well as the ever-popular restroom stops en route.

Meet in front of Antigua Bread one block east of the Highland Park Goldline Metro Station a few minutes before 9:00 a.m.  We will depart promptly (i.e., don't be late and, no, I won't hold up the rest of the group if you phone saying you're "only" five minutes away).  If you choose to drive instead of taking the Metro, there is a large parking lot behind Antigua Bread, adjacent to the station, and on-street parking.  Both are free on Sundays.  The Goldline Metro fare is $1.50, one way.

Our hike ends about 4 hours later at Lucky Baldwin's Pub in Old Pasadena, four blocks from Memorial Park and the Metro Goldline Station, from which you can return via the Metro to our starting point.

If you pack a lunch, you can savor it under the trees in Memorial Park, or, join those of us who prefer to help Lucky Baldwin's Pub celebrate their 15th annual Belgian Beer Festival.   The Pub offers  a menu for diners as well as a selection of more than 100 beers.

My mobile number is[masked]-0168.

Since I limit the number of participants please do not RSVP "Yes" unless you mean it.

Excellent hike. Different from all the past hikes. New scenery, with a bit of history along the way. Very enjoyable. Nice hikers to chat to, as well. Just the right distance, too. The pub lunch was the icing on the cake! Thanks Tuck.

This was an easy walk that really had a lot of great viewpoints. Lucky Baldwin's was ok. We enjoyed the company most of all.
