Second Saturday Hike at the Arboretum

  • December 14, 2013 · 10:00 AM
  • Overland Park Arboretum

Overland Park Arboretum Hike.  Directions: on US69 go north or south, depending on your starting point, to the 179th street exit. Go west 0.8 miles and the street entrance is on your left. Dogs permitted though bring a leash.  The group meets by the main building.  Hikers can take either a shorter route (just under an hour, approx) or a longer one (an hour and a half to two hours total).  Terrain includes mulch and dirt, mostly, and at times, some dirt/rock mix.  If its been raining a bit, there will be a small stream to cross.  It seems to me the level of challenge, overall, is mild to moderate, and there are a few hills to hike.  The shorter route is, I figure, just shy of 2 miles; the longer route is about 4 miles.  If rain, or significant possibility of rain, the hike may be called off.  If the hike is to be cancelled, I will post this information.

Following the hike a good number of participants go to Barley's Brewhouse around the noon hour.

**For your information: For 2013 the Arboretum will be charging each hiker $3 for entry to the park.  (Another option: one can purchase a $35 pass for the entire year to the Arboretum).

It was a great place to walk and not too difficult. I also had fun going to lunch after!

Is there anyone doing the short route tomorrow? This is my first time attending and I will also have my dog with me.

Hi Natasha, usually a few do the short route. but, if not, we will point you in the right direction. its a short way back to the parking lot for the first go around. the odds of getting lost are low. Chris

Wish I could go, but it's my turn to attend commencement for December graduates and the ceremony is scheduled for the same time.
