4th of July morning: Walk the Line Creek Trail in the Northland

This is a paved trail through trees and along a stream. We will meet at the Line Creek Community Center and walk south.  I want to go as far as the Missouri River, so I don't know how long it will take.  I would allow two hours for the walk.  I usually start my hikes about 3 minutes after stated starting time.

I biked this route and didn't know how to get from the Sonic on Vivian back on the trail to go to Argosy and the river.  Hopefully someone will be on the walk who has done this.

Leashed dogs are welcome.

Here is some info on the trail: http://bikewalkkc.org/content/line-creek-trail-recognized-outstanding-development-project-2013

I have read and agree to the Liability Waiver (http://files.meetup.com/2469052/KCHG.pdf) in its entirety and I freely and voluntarily assume all risks for my guest and myself while attending and participating in this event.

A plan for a future hike: instead of starting at today's location, start at Renner Brenner Park, on NW Vivion Rd. There is parking there for 30 or 40 cars, benches and rest rooms. Across the street there may be more parking. Head to the Quick Trip, go NE along Vivion Rd a few hundred yards, and pick up the trail (underpass for hikers under Vivion Rd) where we all stopped briefly to catch up with stragglers today. Then go north on the trail we took today, to Line Creek Trail as far as you want; the trip back to parking would be all downhill.

Nice hike today! Hey Linda, so we went along in two groups. Crazy Mike, I don't know how far you guys walked but you had a long walk back! Hope you made it by now!!

We ended up going back a different route, at NW Woodland Dr there is another Line Creek Trail (!) almost a straight line east of the creek, was a nice walk 1/4 mile in shade, but abruptly turns into NW Waukomis Drive from NW Vivion Rd all the way back to the park, no sidewalk and sunny most of the way.
We almost found the trail, we were 100 feet from it but didn't see it, it was behind the Quick Trip and Patriot Bank parking lots, at Renner Brenner Park. From that park you can continue "down stream" and the paved trail ends at the Argosy Casino complex, HOWEVER: the trail from Renner Brenner to Argosy is "boring" as in all trimmed grass, concrete walk, and the creek is lined in white rock, and no forest that I could see all the way down to Argosy. So, today's hike got the "interesting" part of it.

It was a great day for the walk/hike. Now we know that we just needed to go a little further past Q-trip to pick up the trail to take us down to the river. We will do that on the next trip!!! :):)

Now I know to along the side of Quik Trio and not in front of it to pick up the trail. Looking forward to hearing about the adventure the rest of you had.

Jason, Takoda, and I had a great time! Unfortunately, we had to cut the walk short bc my dog was too tuckered out... It was nice to meet you, Linda! You weren't lying when you said you like to walk at a faster pace! :)

I was running late also...had a conflict a same time. Figured you guys would have to go ahead without me. Sorry 'bout that. As I'm reading the other posts now, I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to go 8 miles either. Looks like I'm not the only one. Perhaps next time, some of us needing a shorter walk can work that out together?

I hope it is not 8 miles. I sure can't do that much.

Hey Linda. Its about 8 miles round trip from ice rink to argosy. So close to 3 hours to do. Hope this helps. Might see you all tomorrow. I'm biking it. Take care.

Fortunately, the Weather Channel says it's only going to be in the 70's for our walk tomorrow. That means I will be bringing my doggy woggy, Takoda. Yay! Looking forward to this and the great weather!

Yes the trail picks up at the Renner Brenner Site Park in Riverside. This is .3 miles west of Sonic. This morning I walked the trail from the Site Park to the E.H. Young Park just east of the Argosy Casino. Took me about 30 minutes to walk it so a total of about an hour round trip. The trail is about 6 feet wide with a concrete surface. The view of the Missouri River from the E.H. Young Park is impressive, especially now that the River is full and the current is fast. The Park itself is very nice with a wide brick mosaic walkway along the river and a raised lookout. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to our walk on the 4th.

Do you have a mileage estimate? Looks like quite a distance to the MO River, but you said 2-ish hours. I'd like to get to know this trail.

    June 27, 2014

    • Linda

I don't know the distance. I rode it on my bike, but didn't start that the same place. If we haven't gotten to the river within an hour, the group can decide if they want to turn around and head back.

I'm bringing my bike as well....just in case I decide to ride after the hike

I was going to bring my puppy but I just thought about her needing water, so far I decided not to. I don't want my sweety to get hot. My dogs love me - I can't say that for some people.
