Long easy hike: Spain to Tram Tower 1

Meet at Michael Emery Trailhead Parking Lot. (In case you are not familiar with this trailhead, follow these directions: drive east on Spain Rd until it ends. Turn right on High Desert St going south. Trailhead parking is on left side of this road.)

We will stay on the foothill trails (365 and 230) with very little elevation gain for 4-5 miles going north. The last 3rd of the mile to the base of the tower is very steep and can be skipped by anyone who is not up to the challenge. We will stop for a quick lunch among the rock formations on our way back (another 4-5 miles).

We will leave the parking lot promptly at 9:00 AM. Please don't expect to be back before 2:00 PM.

Thanks, Khondeh, for leading the hike again!

A good solid workout with beautiful weather. Great to actually get to see one of the tram towers close up - I had never done that before.

I enjoyed the hike. Khondeh is a good hike leader; she set a good pace, stopped so everyone could do bathroom breaks etc, gave everyone the details of how she was planning to conduct the hike ( route out, time, route back, asked the group for an opinion when needed etc.). I'd like to see her leading more hikes. Well done, Khondeh.

We had a nice and warm day for this hike. We made it to the Tower in 2.5 hours (about 6 miles) on trail 305 and 365. On return, some returned on the same trails, and the last 5 of us returned on alternative trails (365, 230, 342, 140, 366) ending the hike at 2:21.

great outing, perfect weather. I have been looking for a hike like this, focused on building endurance. Good pacing Khondeh. I hope to join you again

    Kcire,
This is an easy hike and it is fairly long. So the endurance is the key. If you think you are able to hike for up to 5 hours, then you should be all right.
