La Vega Loop from Santa Fe Ski Area

Hike through the aspen, fir, and spruce to an open meadow at the foot of Santa Fe Baldy. La Vega, Spanish for "meadow" or "pasture land" offers a beautiful setting away from the sometimes crowded Winsor trail. There should be many wildflowers in bloom given the rain they've had.

After the hike we'll stop at the Burrito Company on Washington St. for a late lunch. If you're not interested in this we can plan carpooling to accommodate.

RT Distance: 8 miles

RT Time: ~4 hours; driving time is 1.5 hrs each way, with an hour for lunch. We should be back in Burque by 4:00-4:30.

Elevation Range: 10,000-10,840 ft.; total gain ~2500 ft.

Difficulty: Strenuous

Sorry, no dogs allowed on this hike.

Bring plenty of water, snacks, rain gear, and hiking poles, if you use them. Trail 403 off the Winsor is very steep. We'll be hiking down this.

Please don't sign up for this hike unless you've been actively hiking distances equal to this.

It is all Dave's fault that we had a great hike with beautiful weather.
    Ha Ha!
    Thanks for organizing!

yes, it was a tough hike! apparently it was all Dave's fault (his words, not mine). seriously, the weather was beautiful, the company was wonderful, the food in SF was good, and the rainstorm going back to ABQ was awesome.

Wonderful hike and the elevator was so much fun. Ha! Thanks for being so patient. I'm exhausted and my knee is swollen and hurts so no Nambe hike tomorrow.

Threat of rain/storms in A.M. doesn't sound good. Have a safe hike.

I think rating in SF would be a great way to end the day

Does the 4:30 return time include eating in Santa Fe? If it does, I'm fine. If not, then I probably won't have time to eat in Santa Fe.

    • Kathy

Jan, yes it does provided we complete the 8 miles in ~4 hrs.

I will need to be back by 4:00 so will likely pass on eating.

Let us know if you need to be back sooner and want to pass on eating in Santa Fe.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
