Sandia Peak Ski Area Up, Timed Hike, Dog Friendly (Moderately Strenuous).

There’s a 10 to 20% slope the entire way. We’ll be walking under the ski lifts. The intent of this timed hike is for participants to hike a little faster than a leisurely hike.
This is an out and back meaning we’ll come back on the same trail so no one should worry about being too far behind. Everyone should turn around after 70 minutes. On the trip down I will be walking behind the last person.
This is an excellent hike for dogs because of the wide, cleared paths.
Hikers should be tolerant of loose dogs.
• Meet at Smiths Grocery Store at Tramway and Central at 5:45 P.M. for a 20 minute carpool to the ski area parking lot at the base of the Sandia Peak Ski area.
• Distance: ~Less than 2 miles. We’ll hike under the ski lifts on the grassy ski slopes to the restaurant at the top.
Elevation Gain: 1700 ft
Rating: Moderately strenuous.
Bring: Water, snack, and poles, if you use them. The temperature can be 30 degrees cooler at the top than in Albuquerque.
Limit 10 hikers. If you RSVP and can't make it, please change your RSVP as soon as you know so that others will have an opportunity to advance from the waitlist.

If you are meeting us at the Sandia Ski Area Parking Lot, be there at 6:15.

I was looking forward to finally having friends to hike with but I will have to go earlier instead.

The grass is probably 2' (feet) tall now so pants might be better than shorts. Also, you might want to bring a light rain jacket.

It's a steady 15 to 20% slope on grassy hills similar to the lush, green, opening scene of the "Sound of Music". Our regulars -- Steve E, and Steve M.'s faces did turn quite red when we did it in June which was quite entertaining. You're younger than me....It's the closest thing to Wheeler Peak that we have in Albuquerque. You can rest on the way down.
