Hike Puerto Nambe, Santa Fe - Moderate

  • Jun 27, 2014 · 8:30 AM

Meet at Target at Paseo del Norte at 8:30 a.m.  I have a light blue Ford Escape and will be on the north side of the parking lot.  We'll carpool to the Santa Fe ski basin--expect to pay driver at least $10 for the trip if you're a rider.

Hike is 8 miles all together, 1,150 ft. elevation gain with some up and down.  The first half mile is uphill, but once we make it past that we have a long stretch through aspens that is not difficult, then a not-too-steep climb up to the final meadow, Puerto Nambe, where we'll have lunch.

Bring:  plenty of water (2 liters), snacks, lunch, and rain gear.  If people want, we'll have dinner in Santa Fe on the way back.

Thanks for going along, everyone! By the way, the Santa Fe hiking group is going to Nambe Lake next Sunday if you want to see the lake. :)

Fantastic hike. Although a little over my limit, it was very enjoyable. Thank you Jill.

I was up there last weekend. Trail is in good shape with a lot of traffic. One of my favorite spots to camp there is to turn left at Puerto Nambe as though you're going to Lake Katherine of to summit Baldy. Go about 200 yards , and there's a big meadow on the left. Camp anywhere. There's a spring that turns into a little creek going straight at Baldy from the meadow, so there's some very good water.

    Hi Everyone,
Please be sure that if you sign up for this hike you are able to hike 8 miles. Julie, check back on the website 1 hour before the hike to make sure it's not cancelled as I'll not have time to make phone calls to everyone.
