Let's carpool to Tree Spring Trail in the East Mountains for a nice hike up to the crest and back. It will take 15-20 minutes to get there (up the Crest Highway, NM 536, north off of I-40), so everyone please be on time. Parking fee is $3 per car, or annual permit. There is a restroom at the trailhead.
This hike starts at 8470' and goes up to the crest for a spectacular view, with over 1000' gain in 2 miles. Not a beginner hike but we will go at an Easy Pace. We can split into 2 groups if some would like to go up the trail ahead at a faster pace. The total length of hike will be 4 miles.
Tree Spring Trail is in the forest, very shady and winding, so there may be snow or ice -- please bring gaiters and traction devices/spikes for your hiking boots. Dress in layers.
At the Crest there is a fantastic overlook of the whole valley. We can take a break there and have snacks/lunch before heading back down.
Weather: I have not checked the trail conditions lately, so hopefully we can get some info before the hike. If we have a snowstorm come through before Wednesday, we may reschedule this hike.
No dogs for this hike please.
