Elena Gallegos to TWA Crash Site

This hike is 7 to 8 miles. The first mile and a half is very little elevation gain. After the turn off to the crash site, it is very steep and constant uphill. Total elevation gain is more than 2000'. We will hike at a moderate pace but there is some scrambling over rocks and one place includes going over a 6' rock face. We've been told this is not dangerous but difficult. We will take our time over the uphill part and stop whenever we need to catch our breath. This means a longer time to complete the hike based on stops.

We will meet at the back of the loop by the bathrooms. Make sure to bring enough water and snack/lunch and count on hiking more than 4 hours. There is a $1 parking fee at the guard station.

Khondeh will lead this hike since I will not be able to attend much as I want to - next time for sure.

I continued bout 1/4 mile past the shelter then headed back at a good pace for me. Saw some interesting carvings on several rocks on the path. You guys are hard core! Thanks for letting me tag along on such a beautiful day.
