New Meetup: Friday Night Combo: La Cueva Trail/Canyon and Jaral Cabin

Announcing a new Meetup for The Albuquerque Hiking and Outdoor Meetup!

What: Friday Night Combo: La Cueva Trail/Canyon and Jaral Cabin

When: Friday, July 9,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Albertsons
12201 Academy Rd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87111

Time: 6:00pm (please be prompt because we will leave by 6:05pm)

Location/Directions: Click on the meeting location for specific directions. We will meet at Albertson's on Academy and Tramway and car pool to the La Cueva Trailhead. Cost: $3.00/car

Who Should Attend: Hikers that would enjoy this event are people that have hiked with me in the past OR anyone who has hiked with Tyrone on some of his scrambling hikes OR anyone that has some experience scrambling. ALSO, this should NOT be your first rock/scrambling event.

Hike Description: This event is part scrambling and part hiking. We will start on the La Cueva trail and then venture into the La Cueva canyon. Dependent upon the experience of the group, we may take an unmarked trail route and approach the canyon from it's side instead of going straight in at the base. After we finish exploring the canyon, we will hike south on the Tramway Trail and check out Jaral Cabin which has a neat little discovery once we arrive there. We will finish hiking around 8:00pm. Note: For people who have hiked with me in the past, I love a good view and this one has a couple of interesting ones from the canyon area. Unless you like to be scratched up, I STRONGLY recommend long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

Dogs: Unfortunately, dogs are not welcomed on this hike because it involves tight quarters and scrambling.

Suggested Items to Bring:
1) Water (at least 24oz.)
2) Hiking Boots (highly recommended)
3) Long pants or Shorts with high gaiters (strongly recommended)
4) Bug Spray (highly recommended - the nats are insane)
5) Gloves (highly recommended)

Note:
If the weather looks inclement, please check this web site 30 mintues before the hike start time to see if it will still occur.
