Trail and Off-Trail Navigation

We seem to have a lot of interest in the group for educational activities related to our hikes.  One area of interest is navigation, both gps related and the old fashion way.  I have navigated using a compass and map, on sea, in the air and on land.  I have used a gps for several years.  However, I am certain that I do not possess all of the knowledge available on this subject.  Therefore, I am asking for a few other people to join me on a panel to share our knowledge with the group.  I think Heidi will provide us with a large space in which to meet and this time I'll provide detailed instructions on how to get there.

I'd like to get the panel together first and discuss meeting format:  do we get a projector and have slides, do we need copies of the same map and compasses, etc.  I would like for the others on the panel to have and be familiar with more advanced gps units.  Mine is the Garmin Etrex Venture HC, which does mapping and tracking but lacks more advanced features.

Then we'll post the event and possibly hold a second if needed.

For now send me a message if you are interested in being on the panel or if you want to be in the class.

Note:  We'll also address the question of how to select a gps and allow have gps owners share what they like about their units.
