I FULLY support organizers who wish to ban repeat no-shows from their events.
To habitual no-showers:
1) You're disappointing the hike leaders. Do you really think hike leaders are going to continue leading hikes if you continually disappoint them? This is all volunteer driven--hikes are led for free. Make sure the hike leaders have a positive experience with YOU. We've lost some good hike leaders to bad attitudes on the part of the membership.
2) You are robbing someone who will show up of the opportunity to participate in a hike.
To the people who attempted to email everyone on the list in support of Keith: sorry, I killed your messages--I limit the email from this group where I can, and no one really wants to have 10+ messages in their inbox agreeing with Keith. Let me just say, though, that no one spoke up in support of no-shows.
P.S., hike leaders/organizers: THANK YOU.
Members who RSVP, show up, and bring a good attitude: THANK YOU, you make it rewarding for the leaders.
