Indoor "Hike" at the IMA: Sacred Spain

A different kind of scenery than what this group usually encounters is what we will be in store for this Friday evening event taking place at the Indy Museum of Art. We’ll be taking a break from the trails and cooler temperatures to check out the Sacred Spain exhibition, temporarily being held at the museum. It features 17th-century paintings and sculpture, some of which are making their first U.S. appearance, and long-time hiking member and IMA employee Rebecca will be giving us an informal tour of the exhibit. The plan for the evening will be to meet inside the museum at the Nourish Cafe for the IMA’s happy hour at 6pm and have a drink before visiting the exhibit. The cafe’s bar offers a variety of Upland beer on tap and organic wines, and food is available as well. After some drinks and conversation, we’ll then take on the exhibit, and once we’ve made our way through it, we can explore the other galleries in the museum before closing time at 9pm.

More info on Sacred Spain and the IMA as a whole can be found at www.imamuseum.org.

See you there,
Michael

This was a grand oppurtunity for me. I have always wanted to revisit Sevilla Spain, a part of the beauty of the country came here. I hope we can do other indoor treks of this nature.

What a cool experience! It was nice having Rebecca as our tour guide. She did a tremendous job telling us the history behind the art, and her enthusiasm brought the works to life.
Meeting at the Nourish Cafe was a great idea. It gave everyone time to meet and catch up on things.
Perfect event for this time of year.
    Thanks!

Rebecca did an outstanding job of giving us insight into the exhibition and history surrounding this style of art. Was fun to catch up in Nourish Cafe b4hand and at dinner after. So many people I really love in this group! Had a great time. And well-organized -- as usual! Michael rocks!

It was great to see the group. The idea of an indoor hike is excellent. It adds diversity to the hike list, and it's a cool idea for this time of year.

This was a wonderful experience and I'm so glad I went. Rebecca was phenomenal! At the end of the tour I asked her if there were any female artists of that time. She knew immediately of Luisa Roldan, a sculptor (sculptress?) and told me to check the Getty Museum website: http://www.getty.edu/art/exhibi... which I did as soon as I got home. There's an interesting story that goes along with an example of her work. Check it out!
