June for us will begin at this unique southern Indiana state park we haven't been to in quite a few years. The terrain at Spring Mill is mainly moderate and we'll plan to do about four hours or so on the trails. We'll be covering trails 3, 4, 7, and 5, as well as checking out the Pioneer Village, which is a mini-Conner Prairie. We may have some warm weather on this Saturday, and even if we don't, be sure to bring plenty to drink, and possibly pack some rain gear as well depending on the forecast.
The Spring Mill website for the park is at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources site, where you can find a map of the trails. Click "Maps" on the page and then choose "Property Map."
We'll be meeting in front of the Spring Mill Inn at 1:30pm. Just look for the crowd of us. Also, we'll plan to have dinner at the Inn's restaurant afterwards. It's a buffet that usually offers the state park basics of fried chicken, roast beef, pasta, and a salad bar.
Car Pool Info: For anyone interested, at 11am a car pool will be leaving from the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue (this is not a parking lot; we park on the street and gather on the sidewalk under the tree near the cement bench). The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. These spots are free on Saturdays. With the Farmer's Market going on, finding a spot may be tricky, but there are usually places open near the high school itself. Please be on time!
