Hello one and all,
It's been far too long since we've ventured out to this state park, which is an excellent winter hike, so we'll plan on doing from 3 1/2 to 4 hours on the trails today. I'd like to try to cover the best spots in the park and the weather should be on our side. The terrain here ranges from moderate to rugged, and I encourage everyone to bring along plenty to drink and a snack or two.
Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle.
We'll be having our usual after-hike dinner at the Canyon Inn inside the park, and the restaurant is buffet style.
North-Side Car Pool Info: For anyone who would be interested in car pooling to the park, at 11:30am our usual north-side car pool will be meeting along the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue. The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. These spots are free on Saturdays and are usually wide open when we meet for the car pool. Please be on time!
South-Side Car Pool Info: If anyone is interested in a south-side car pool, please contact hiking member Paul Hilton. The meeting point will be 8711 Southeastern Avenue, which is about 1/2 mile south of the I-74 and Post Road exit. This location is Paul's office, and although Paul won't be able to attend the hike, people are welcome to park their cars at his office. Please contact him with any questions and please arrive on time on Saturday morning at 11:30am.
Car pool @ 11:30am.
Hike @ 1:30pm.
For anyone who would prefer to meet us at at the park, we'll be meeting in the parking area near the Hill Crest Shelter. The parking spots along the street are usually where we park, since they're close to the restrooms. A map of McCormick's Creek is located here at the Department of Natural Resources website. Scroll down on the page to the "Maps" section. If anyone needs to reach me, my cell number is [masked].
See you later,
