Shakamak State Park
A couple of years have gone by since we last hiked this state park in southwestern Indiana, so we'll plan on revisiting this spot again and hiking between 6 and 7 miles. The terrain here ranges from easy to moderate, and we'll be hiking Trail 1 around Lake Shakamak, then part of Trail 3, and Trail 4, which is an out-and-back trail near Lake Lenape.
Admission to the park is $5.
For anyone meeting us directly at Shakamak, we'll be meeting at the parking lot at Tulip Shelter. A map of the park can be found at the DNR site located here. Click on the Maps tab in the middle of the page and then choose Property Map. After entering the park and paying at the gate house, take the first left and then another left next to the pond. When you reach the picnic area, you'll make another left to reach the parking lot. We'll be parking in the spots in front of the building where the restrooms are located. We'll begin the hike at 12pm.
After the hike, we'll be grabbing some early dinner at M. Moggers in Terre Haute.
Car Pool Info: Our car pool will be meeting along the west side of Bishop Chatard High School, which is on the corner of Kessler Boulevard and Crittenden Avenue, at 5885 Crittenden Avenue. The parking along the street is free and we'll be meeting on the sidewalk in front of the school at 9:45am and leave at 10am. Please be on time!
