Since it's going to be a scorcher this weekend, we're going to save the Shakamak trip for another time. But not to be outdone, we're going to do a local hike on Saturday morning. Please be prepared for any kind of weather and be sure to bring plenty to drink.
The entrance fee to the park is $5 per vehicle.
We'll be meeting in the parking lot just west of Delaware Lake. When you pass through the gatehouse, continue on the street and make the first right you come to. This will take you past a parking lot on your left and ahead will be the lake. The parking lot is to the left, and a building with rest rooms is in the center of the yard there. The Fall Creek Trail begins nearby and that's where we'll begin. The DNR page on Fort Harrison that provides a PDF of a map is located here .
Car Pool Info: At 9:30am our usual north-side car pool will be meeting along the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue (this is not a parking lot--we park on the street and usually gather on the sidewalk under the tree near the cement bench). The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. These spots are free on Saturdays and are usually wide open when we meet for the car pool.
We'll plan on getting lunch at the nearby Panera on 56th Street for our after-hike grub.
