Hike @ Charlestown State Park

One of the state's southernmost parks that overlooks the Ohio River is where we'll be hiking for this event and we'll be checking out some trails we didn't hike the last time we were at Charlestown over two years ago. We'll plan to do around 7 or more miles on the park's rugged trails, so the hike will be lasting around four hours all total. Please be prepared for rain or muggy weather, as we may run into either one, or both. Also, please be sure to bring plenty to drink or eat and any other gear you'll need as far as sun block or bug spray.

The cost of admission to the park is $5 per vehicle. We'll be meeting in the park at the trail 1 parking lot. After passing by the gate house, make the first left you come to, and the road will take a right turn and lead to the parking lot. Our plan for the day will be to do trails 1, 3, and 6. Since all of them are spread out in different spots within the park, we'll need to drive to each one. A map of the park is located here at the DNR web site. Click on the Maps tab in the middle of the page and then choose the Property map.

Car Pool Info: For anyone interested, our usual north-side car pool will be meeting at the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue (this is not a parking lot--we park on the street and usually gather on the sidewalk under the tree near the cement bench). We'll be leaving at 10am. The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. Please be on time and arrive ready to go.

Please Note:

Car pool @ 10am

Hike @ 12:30pm

Length: 7 or more miles, around 4 hours

Hike category: Rugged

See you on the trails,

Michael

I'm in Franklin. You're welcome to ride with me. But you're on your own for the ride back as i don't know if I will do all 3 trails.

I am full but if others meet at 96th street Kohls, someone else could probably drive and have carpoolers

I invited a few friends today but if none of them go, that would be great to carpool with you - that is VERY close to where I live. I'll let you know, Sharon. Also, I will check w/ the park about dogs. (he is small & travels great)

Barbara, you can always bring your dog if the park allows. Our group welcomes dogs to join on the hikes. :)

Will it be a problem to bring my dog along? He hiked w/ us at Eagle Creek in July.
