Hike @ McCormick's Creek

After receiving word from Cheryl that the rifle hunting season will be taking place in the Morgan-Monroe area, we’ll reschedule that trip for another time. As a replacement hike, we’ll be going to McCormick’s Creek State Park.

Our plan for the day will be to cover between five and six miles and the trails at McCormick's Creek are mainly moderate with some rugged sections along the creek. Be sure to come prepared to deal with whatever weather we may be experiencing that day.

Admission to the park is $5.

We'll be meeting within the park at the Hill Crest Shelter. The parking spots along the street are usually where we park, since they're close to the restrooms across the street. A map of McCormick's Creek is located here at the Department of Natural Resources website. Scroll down on the page to the "Maps" section.

As usual, our car pool will be meeting at the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue (this is not a parking lot--we park on the street and usually gather on the sidewalk under the tree near the cement bench). We'll be leaving at 10am. The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. Please be on time and arrive ready to go.

Please note:

Car pool @ 10am

Hike @ 12pm

Trail: Mainly moderate with some rugged trails

Length of hike: Between 5 and 6 miles, 3 to 3.5 hours

See you on the 17th,

Are there any southsiders who would like to carpool? I live in the Greenwood Mall area.

I just came back from the trail, and it took me just 3+ hours without any brakes. The trail is very beautiful, but because of leaves on the ground, it is very easy to get lost even for experienced hikers. You may want to do periodical headcounts if you are going there as a large group. Just my thought.

I will meet you at the trail head instead of carpooling from Broad Ripple. Looking forward to the hike!

Hi Michael - Just wanted you to know I found out from the State Forest office that Sat. the 17th is the first day of rifle hunting season, and people are strongly advised to say inside of the park's safety zone that day. As you know, the trail goes into the Backcountry area, and into hunting territory. At minimum, all hikers should wear bright colors, and or safety vests.

Michael, any chance you could add a waiting list? I've noticed that all the hikes I've been on a high percentage of sign ups don't show up anyway.
