Travel by Bike Workshop!!

Got two wheels and a love of summer sun? Hostelling International and Cascade Bike Club are excited to announce a FREE workshop on how to travel by bike! Learn from experienced bicyclists how to travel long and short distances, choose gear, decide routes, bike service tips, pack and more!

Did you know that you could do a fun, week-long European Bike tour for under $1800 including R/t Airfare from Seattle?

We will go over the basics of how to decide what kind of bike tour you want to do, where you want to do it, what the choices are in types of tours ranging from solo self contained, to hosted housing, to formal paid tours, our focus will be on the self contained and hosted types of tours, we will go over the many gear choices and what some of the trade offs are, Saul will bring a variety of gear for you to examine, from off road touring bikes, to folding bikes, to ultra light cooking and camping gear, lists of resources for free or low cost lodging, once you finish you will have the basic tools to plan your own adventure.

The Presenters are:

Saul Kinderis, Saul rides between 3,000 and 10,000 miles a year and typically does 2-4 week long self supported international tours each year, with all these trips he gets a lot of practice planning trips, working out details, taking care of problems that pop up, finding food, finding lodgings, repairing gear, l;earning about local culture, dealing with a variety of interesting situations at border crossings and police stations and more. He has bicycle toured in France, Germany, Luxemburg, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Malaysia. He has also toured a variety of routes in North and Central America through British Columbia, Baja, Chiapas, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado and Arizona. Saul prefers routes with either challenging terrain or with cultural challenges.

Emily Sitter - Emily is a Canadian and relatively new to and very passionate about bike touring, she did her first Bike tour riding from Saskatoon to Vancouver in the summer of 2013, she enjoyed it so much, she decided to continue and rode from Vancouver to Nevada in the late Fall, early winter for a yoga conference. Emily learned a lot this year and she is happy to share her knowledge, ranging from the challenges of route finding when riding solo, traveling without gadgets,  to how to find a safe place to stay at night and various other anecdotes.

So come joins us for a fun evening as we share our passion and our knowledge.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
