Hike to Dirty Face Mountain Summit

Let's hike to the top of dirtyface peak. The mountain is in eastern washington near Lake Wenatchee. If you know where the Lake Wenatchee ranger station is, the trailhead is just behind the ranger office building. This is a moderate hike. Check out the WTA web site: http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/dirtyface-lookout-site. This is a moderate hike. I'll be hanging out @ my cabin. So, the best way to contact me is via Cell phone #206.225.1641. Let's meet @ the trailhead @ 10am. However, if you get lost, my address is 18055 Northshore Drive, Leavenworth, WA, 98826. Check out the weather report (I'm) on top of dirtyface peak (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=47.870785275718084&lon=-120.82475524902344) and pass conditions (http://www.wsdot.com/traffic/passes/stevens/) before driving over. Be prepared for winter driving conditions, carry chains.

Super... Now I know what a 'moderate' hike is. LOL

I hope you guys brought some winter gear. It's lightly snowing & cold @ the mountain.

Ok, I have chains for 4 tires, and will be on my way at 0700...

Is someone able to make a detour in the Overlake area? (or somewhere around it) Thanks in advance.

Maryann, do you still need a ride?

      November 9, 2012

  • Sergiu G.

hi Robert, I am not sure if I understand you correctly - will you be able to give us a ride? If yes, where do you like to meet? Thanks

    November 9, 2012

    • Robert

I'm not sure I'm going to drive all the way up. I might stop at the Bothell P&R and catch a ride from there... Are the two of you for sure wanting to go?? If I drive all the way, I kinda want to go get chains tonight, and I'm not too excited about going back out tonight. Text me at[masked], and I'll keep you informed of what I do.

I can take a lot of folks in my truck... have up to 5 spots. I guess I can leave from Tacoma and pick up along the way??

Hi Robert, yeah you can get chains at places like Walmart I think, or auto-parts places like O'reilly's. My guess of the conditions is chains are unlikely to be needed tomorrow, but good to have them just in case. Forecast is for 20% chance of precipitation, if it rains it's nice to have goretex clothes but not the end of the world if you don't have it. I'd expect some snow on the trail and would recommend a sturdy pair of hiking boots...

      November 9, 2012

    • Robert

Ok, O'Reilly's has them in stock... What's the requirement if the roads are bad? I remember that if you've a 4x4 you're good, and sometimes even 4x4s need a 'pair'. Is there times where you have to have all 4 with chains??

      November 9, 2012

  • Robert

Ok, I think I'm still going. I'd imagine that I can 'rent' tire chains if I even needed them. There are currently no restrictions. Anyone else want to carpool? We need to be there by 10am, so I will leave Tacoma at 7, which will put us there at about 0945 without getting stuck, detouring too much, or taking much time picking people up. My route will be 5/405, depending if I need to go into Seattle for folks.

Hi Robert, I will appreciate if you can pick also me and my friend. We live in the Overlake area (156st NE with NE 40th st - this is my address) but we can take the bus somewhere near the intersection of 405 with 520. (But we may have a problem with some road work in that area)

Sergiu... I was thinking about meeting Llia at the Bothell Park and Ride... If we get 1 or 2 more, then maybe it'll be better if I drive instead of catching a ride with him.

Actually, is anyone is coming from Seattle? Want to pick me up from downtown Seattle/First Hill/Capitol Hill?

    November 7, 2012

    • Robert

Ok, how many people can fit in your rig? What exit is the bothell P&R off of? Are the trails hard packed snow?

      November 9, 2012

    • Robert

I found the P&R (Kayser Way & Woodinville Dr )

I don't have chains... I need to check on that. I have a Chrysler Aspen 4x4. I don't even know where I can get chains from... Wal-mart??

    Anyone coming from Tacoma??

Would I be able to get a ride from the Seattle area? I will pitch in for gas!

    November 9, 2012

    • Ilia S.

I'm headed there from the downtown Seattle area and can give you a ride.

      November 9, 2012

  • Sergiu G.

Well, it seems that are more people without a ride that actual available places. I might specify that I also do not have a car. However, I am ok to say no if I will not find a ride until tonight.

I am in need of a ride. My carpool had to cancel last minute. Is there anyone that has extra room for me? I am in Kirkland, but can meet somewhere that is convenient. Thanks

I would be interested in meeting at the Eastgate Park and Ride and then carpooling to the trailhead. Does anyone have room in their vehicle for me? I can contribute gas$$ !

Hi...I could use a partner for the drive over the hill. No biggie if you've already lined up something else. I'll send you an email with my contact information. Jim

Hey you all. I'm new this week to this meetup thing. It seems a bit strange but fun to invite myself to something. Is that how this truly works? Well, I promise to be cool. I am coming from Kirkland and would love to either give a ride or tag along with someone else. I have a toyota pickup so I can't take more than one without the back seat people significantly compromising their comfort. Megan and Joanne, I'll send you a messages...

I love hiking Dirty Face! The picture of me in the snow in my profile is on Dirty Face! I have plans this coming weekend and can't go, but if you hike it again, I'd go for sure!
